Redbirds Bounce Back on Educator Night
The home team Redbirds avenge their loss from last Sunday with a 10-run rule against the visiting Tea Steam from SD, the final score was 12-2. Ethan Beyer led the offense with 4 RBIs, and Jake Haugen secured the win with 6 innings pitched.
Luverne opened the scoring in the 2nd inning. Two walks by Lundgren and Beyer allowed Haugen, the pitcher, to score them with a 2 RBI double.
The game went stale except a double from Newt Johnson in the 3rd. Tea answered back in the 5th with a single and a double to follow, that would be Haugen’s only run scored against.
The Redbirds blew the game open in the bottom half of the 5th where they batted around and scored 5. Cade Wenninger started the inning with a triple and Casey Sehr quickly doubled after to score him. Ben Serie followed the extra base hits with one of his own when he doubled to score Sehr. Ethan Beyer racked up 2 RBIs when he singled to score Skyler Wenninger and Derek Lundgren who got on with walks.
The bottom of the 6th provided Luverne with even extra cushion. Scoring started when a Skyler Wenninger walk with the bases loaded scored Ripka. Newt Johnson hit a single to score Cade Wenninger and make the game 9-1. Derek Lundgren scores Skyler Wenninger with a fielders choice and Beyer gathers his third and fourth RBIs with a late single to score Johnson and Lundgren.
Tea came up short of stopping the mercy rule when they scored one in the top of the 7th against Derek Lundgren to finish the game 12-2 via mercy.
Jake Haugen gets his second win of the season when he pitched 6 innings of 4 hit, 1 run (earned), 2 walk, 5 strikeout ball. Derek Lundgren closes with 1 inning, 1 run (earned), 2 walks, and 1 strikeout.
Redbirds travel to Pipestone next Wednesday (May 29th), to take on the A’s in a Gopher League matchup.
